Magyar Telekom hit by fine

Hungary’s Magyar Telekom has been fined by the regulator NMHH for changing its billing practices.

In a statement, NMHH says that last October and November the company altered its payment deadline by making them shorter, from the beginning of the following month to the end of the current month.

Hundreds of thousands of subscribers were unaware of their rights and following complaints NMHH initiated proceedings.

In imposing the fine, which amounts to HUF25 million (€77,000), the regulator took into account the large number of people affected and the fact that Telekom had committed similar infringements three times in the last two years.

At the same time, it also noted that Telekom had provided the customers affected a 5% discount on the total amount of their second bill.
