Netflix leads demand for digital originals

69

The share of demand for digital original series across all markets is highest for Netflix, though at 64.6% in Q1 it was over six percentage points lower than the 71% recorded a year earlier.

According to the findings of the latest edition of Parrot Analytics’ Global Television Demand Report, Amazon Prime Video (10.3%) and Hulu (7.7%) were in second and third place respectively, but both also lost share. DC Universe and CBS All Access meanwhile claimed 5.2% and 4.4% respectively, with other services accounting for the remaining 7.8%. The report also notes that increased demand for series from YouTube Premium and DC Universe driving these changes.

Parrot Analytics says it defines digital original series as “a multi-episode series where the most recent season was produced or first made available on a streaming platform. Once we define a title as a digital original, we regard the original streaming platform to be the same in all markets”.

Furthermore, it includes developed, acquired and co-licensed originals but excludes licensed originals and licensed series.
