SABC reaches MultiChoice agreement

SABC’s 24-hour news network and re-run channel SABC Encore are to remain on the DStv network.

It follows a renewed carriage agreement between the South African Public Broadcaster and DStv parent MultiChoice.

“The agreement follows extensive discussions between the parties‚ as the previous contract is set to expire. SABC and Multichoice believe that this agreement will give their relationship a new start” the two organisations said in a joint statement.

Negotiations are continuing over the three must carry channels that SABC argues it should be compensated for, because they are among the most watched on the satellite service.

SABC1, SABC2 and SABC were granted must carry status in 2008.
