Telekom Romania sale problems mount

22

Deutsche Telekom’s exit from the Romanian market is proving to be increasingly fraught with difficulties.

Ziarul Financiar reports that two of the frontrunners to buy the 70% stake currently held by Telekom’s Greek subsidiary OTE – Orange and Digi – are only interested in acquiring some of Telekom Romania’s assets.

In the case of Digi, which already accounts for around 50% of Romania’s cable TV and fixed internet market, the company would like to buy Telekom’s mobile network and radio licences. This would make any transaction more affordable and likely to be approved by the European Commission.

As previously reported by Broadband TV News, OTE is asking companies interested in buying its stake in Telekom Romania to put bids on the table.
