The BBC launches iPlayer consultation

The BBC wants to make the BBC iPlayer a destination in its own right with box sets, live programming and archive titles.

A consultation has been launched into the proposals that include plans to offer shows on the iPlayer for at least 12 months after they are first shown, complete series box sets and more content from the BBC archive.

Charlotte Moore, Director, BBC Content, said in the future the iPlayer will become the main delivery platform for BBC content in the way it already is for younger viewers.

“It’s also important that regulation recognises that there should be a level playing field for public service broadcasters, to ensure British stories are being told for British audiences.”

In November, Ofcom imposed a number of changes to the BBC’s proposals, fearing they had the potential to crowd out investment in UK content from other companies.
