After a shaky start, Horizon has been developed into a full-featured entertainment platform that encompasses linear TV, on demand, games and apps.
However, in an interview with German publication Digital Fernsehen, Vodafone Germany’s head of external communications said that although initially viewers would see no change, its roadmap was different. “In the future, we will replace Horizon with the next TV generation, which will be a Vodafone product,” Leinhos said.
Vodafone is already pushing its own GigaTV, powered in part by apps developed by Metrological that has added premium OTT content to the platform.
An update to GigaTV is expected in October.
Earlier this month, the European Commission has approved the acquisition, with conditions, of Liberty Global’s cable business in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania by Vodafone.
