Orange has been the biggest beneficiary of Vodafone’s decision to no longer show La Liga and Champions League football in Spain.

Quoting figures produced by the regulator CNMC, El Economista reports that Vodafone’s audiovisual revenues in H2 2019 amounted to €90.28 million, or 24% less than the €119.24 million posted the corresponding period a year earlier.

At the same time, Orange saw its audiovisual revenues grow by 40% from €40.05 million to €67.49 million.

Meanwhile, Telefónica was barely affected by Vodafone’s decision, its H2 2018 audiovisual revenues of €843 million being only 1.2% lower than a year earlier.

Looking at 2018 as a whole, Orange saw its audiovisual revenues grow by 48.6%, while both Vodafone (-7.8%) and Telefónica (-1.05%) experienced falls.

CNMC data shows that the number of pay-TV subscribers in Spain grew by 3.1% year-on-year to 6.9 million in 2018, with 6.3 million of the total opting for bundled offers.

However, pay-TV revenues fell by 1.6% year-on-year to €521 million.
